If you have difficulty removing the screws on the right and left sides of the column, with the steering wheel locked and no access to the screws, first remove the upper cover of the steering column by striking it with a flat screwdriver to unscrew the breakaway screws. This will loosen the ignition switch, allowing you to unscrew the screws on the right and left sides as the lock will release.
